The Power Of Simple

The Power Of Simple

The power of great looking skin lies in the simplicity of your skin care routine.

I'm sure you've heard the phrase 'you are what you eat', I think its safe to say that this statement is true. In fact, it has been proven that the foods in which we eat have a tremendous affect on our bodies, especially our skin.  Although eating the right types of foods is essential to living a healthy lifestyle, we're also faced with the daily struggles of combating fatigue, stress, pollution and other factors that can take a toll on our health and ultimately our appearance.

In my previous blog  Achieving a balanced skin tone I name the most common factors that cause our skin to look less than it's best, such as:

  • free radical damage
  • lack of sleep
  • poor diet
  • skin conditions
  • environmental
  • allergies
  • stress
  • age

Here are some factors to think about when searching for a suitable skincare routine.

  • What are your concerns
  • Know your skin type
  • What recent changes have you implemented

When you know your skin type and you've zeroed in on the major problem that concerns you most about your skin, then you're ready to choose the best skincare suitable for you.

Here is a list of concerns you may want to consider:

  1. External stress
  2. Environmental damage
  3. Free radical damage
  4. UVA/UVB sun rays
  5. Loss of cellular energy

Last but not least, know your skin type. Your skin type is how your skin acts and feels, to recap from my previous blog  Is your skin oily, normal or dry? you can figure this out by your skin's texture, look and comfort.

Here are the different skin types for your reference:

  • Dry Skin - lacks moisture, skin feels dry, tight, looks dull and may have a rough texture.
  • Oily Skin - results from an overactive sebaceous gland. Skin can appear shiny or cloudy with enlarged pores.
  • Combination Skin - some areas are oily (typically the centre t-zone) and other areas are dry.
  • Normal to Dry Skin - skin is normal with dry patches (usually caused by dehydration).

Now that you know your skin type and concern, it's time to implement a suitable skincare routine to help get your skin looking and feeling its ultimate best. Remember your skincare shouldn't be complicated, just like the food we eat, everything good for us comes naturally from the earth, we just need to go back to basics to reap the benefits. A healthy lifestyle starts from within and when we love ourselves from the inside out, it'll affect not only who we are but how we look and feel.
